Zakrzówek – September 9, 2014 |
An unveiling ceremony was held in the town of Zakrzówek, next to the graves of over 20 Poles of Jewish origin murdered by German soldiers in the fall of 1942 and now commemorated by the Foundation. The victims were the residents of Zakrzówek who had been hiding in the town in order not to be deported to the ghetto of Kraśnik. Local authorities, students and guests paid tribute to the dead. Among the participants were: representative of the Chancellery of the President of Poland Jakub Beczek, Chief Rabbi f Poland Michael Schudrich, Mayor of Zakrzówek Grzegorz Lemiecha, Priest of Zakrzówek parish Dariusz Ziółkowski, vice-principal Mariola Surma along with the students of a local school and the Foundation’s president Zbigniew Niziński. After the Mayor’s introduction and the speech by the Chancellery representative, the Rabbi and the Priest prayed together. The students recited poetry, which was followed by a testimony of an eyewitness to the extermination of Jewish community in Zakrzówek in 1942. |
