40 arranged stones symbolize the number of Victims who were shot to death at that place in the summer of 1942. Next to the stones, the scouts from a school in Łomazy and firefighters from Studzianka together stood in an honor guard. The youth from the town of Riszon Le Zion in Israel sang songs, memory wreaths were laid and candles lit. The participants were familiarized with the history of the camp. It was set up in 1941, an average of 300 Jews worked there restoring the Zielawa riverbed. The camp had been operating until the fall of 1942. The Germans marched the remaining Jews from the campsite and executed them in the Hały Forest near Łomazy. |
